A version of 1984 where Big Brother convinces everyone to carry a CCTV camera around.

Nice work, humanity. Outstanding.

Good job we immediately scrapped pandemic preparedness the instant Covid seemed under control. It wasn’t enhancing shareholder value, so it had to go.

Picked this up at the British Museum and cracked it open on the train home to distract me from the very noisy family annoying the entire carriage.

Loving it so far.

The novel based on the screenplay that’s based on the novel.

It’s a little bit “nuts and bolts” but I love The Thing and I enjoyed this.

Andy Burnham in this single one hour speech didn’t mention the specific thing I wanted him to say, therefore the speech was rubbish and he is rubbish! Rubbish rubbish rubbish.

The third book of my read through of le Carré’s “Smiley” novels. The Great Game, fought in dreary offices and backstreet pubs and dingy hotels. Betrayal, cynicism and weariness. Shards of brutality.

What a beautifully written book. A meditation on time, memory, family secrets, myth.

Sort of Mike Leigh meets Alan Garner? Maybe.

If it’s not one of my books of the year, I’ll eat my hat.

The Red Mouth by Sheila Armstrong.

Enjoyed this collection of short horror stories. Fearful Symmetries, edited by Ellen Datlow. Some very creepy tales. All killer, no filler. Perfect for Halloween.

Hey, Andy Burnham. Ever wondered what you would have done during the rise of fascism?

It’s what you are doing now: fuck all.

What a ride this was. Body horror, vampires, Everettian weapons, Lovecraftian mercantilism, BDSM, airships and talking cactuses.

Loved it!

Powerful thread. The RNLI are the best of us, those who oppose it the worst. It’s that simple.
I’ve worn a grubby RNLI cap for decades. I sound London, but I was born in Truro and I was a basically feral (Gen X) kid wandering the coast path with a dog until sunset for a lot of my early life. The lifeboats are in the fabric like trawlers and farms and pasties and fish and chips.

Seems a nice time to remind people that - if you buy through the RNLI shop - you are directly supporting their important work saving any lives at sea - because all lives matter - not just white ones.

The police should deploy water cannons to Portsmouth and use them to hose the mouth-breathing nonce bonnet trash who are intimidating the RNLI into the sewers with all the other turds.
