And while it didn’t start then, it doesn’t help that the 20th century so-called “western occult tradition” was largely incepted by people who mastered the practice of getting people to believe in bullshit, which directly led into everything from New Ageism to Nazism to technoccultism.

One of the complexities of the social world is that magic is simultaneously real (as in, an activity that humans actually do and that has practical impacts in the social world), and the vast majority of the magical thinking that occult communities engage in is utterly complete make-believe bullshit.

The secret is to be always contemplating the Abyss of Deep Time.

Laundry? Main ingredient in detergent is produced in the US from the remains of 50 million year old lakes.

Nose picking? Primate ancestors get fingers to do that around those very same lakes.
This puts unrealistic pressure on the rest of us to be doing something arty when the prize committee calls. I can't be "doing the laundry" or "picking my nose".

leading to the obvious question, could 100 triremes take a ship of the line?

Chevron donated $150,000 to the Bay Area Council, which led a campaign against electrification rules requiring homeowners to replace gas water heaters with electric heat pumps. The Council hired a software company to send thousands of opposition emails, some without the consent of the signers.

If you could have AO3-style tag wrangling in any non-fanfic, non-AO3 spaces, what space would you add it to?

I know @gretchenmcculloch.com wrote a Wired article about 7 years ago(!) that listed some examples of this, but I'm curious what thoughts folks are having about this now.
Fans Are Better Than Tech at Organizing Information Online
Archive of Our Own, the fanfiction database recently nominated for a Hugo, has perfected a system of tagging that the rest of the web could emulate.
