My purpose in life is to remind everyone that every ridiculous thing has happened before. That and to have strong opinions about Star Wars. Those two things.

Yesterday I made a typo that led to a short convo about Kobe and Shaq. And I always more of a Magic and Kareem gal, but this got me thinking

Can you even imagine the conservative outcry we'd have today if the Lakers had a power duo consisting of a muslim guy who changed his name and a HIV+ guy?

As far as I can tell, Effective Altruists are Utilitarians who are relieved that in the Trolley Problem, saving 5 people justifies their innate desire to kill the one guy

In tragic news, the tiny torx screws on this AirTag holder blend well with my area rug and are non-ferrous.

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

Starting to think the general public has not internalized that modern business PR is almost entirely aimed at keeping shareholders happy.

It used to be some of it was aimed at consumers, but these days if a corporation says anything publicly the primary audience is shareholders.

First Cyberpunk 2077 Game-to-Reality build complete!
My 3D modelled & printed Militech M-10AF Lexington. This is an in-game NCPD standard issue firearm. Decided to keep the finish clean on this one as I wanted to build this as an active police service weapon.

Battletech. It'd cost at least that much, get a hundred thoughtful comparisons and ten thousand specious ones to Game of Thrones and maybe three critics will see the influence from The Expanse, and it will cause at least two of the worst discourses possible. Also there will be giant robots.
youve got 5.6 billion to make a 7 season 56 episode show airing over 15 years, wdyd

ExoSquad, probably as a fork of Lancer for the combat part but with a lot of Blades in the Dark elements for the out of combat beats.
Okay. You have unfortunately been hit with the curse that makes you adapt a work you liked as a kid into a ttrpg.

What thing are you adapting?

I'm telling y'all the lack of literacy in media swings both ways, and just because you're sitting on the same side as me on hating genAI doesn't mean I trust nor honor your arbitrary concept of what is good or bad.
People who spot AI in an artwork:
"look at the ears, what a mess, what a nonsensical inner shape, no experienced artist, no HUMAN would ever draw it like this"

and I'm sitting here, drawing for an eternity, and never in my life have looked at how a real ear looks and just draw whatever squiggles

Another cool thing here is that some of these ended up being real (though usually obscure) words as well. Chirography in particular is a technical term for handwriting/penmanship, but even more interesting is chirograph, an obsolete type of handwritten legal document.

The man's skeletal injuries looked like a train hit him, but he died in 1304 CE. At #ppa26Berlin last week, @uniofbradford.bsky.social scientist Jo Buckberry concluded he was likely whacked by a flying boulder, making him the first confirmed trebuchet death in the archaeological record. @science.org
