I am working on a side thing that nobody but my agent knows about, so take that as you will.
Last night I dreamed that I was on a bus with @craigschaeferbooks.com He was working on a book. I was leaning over reading as he wrote. It was not the next Castaways book. 🥴 Then the bus got into an accident and we had to get off the bus. Idk what all that means 🤣🤷‍♀️

Every techbro thinks he's gonna be Immortan Joe when in reality he'll be LUCKY to be a Warboy, and will probably be one of the poor filthy people begging for a drink of water outside the fortress gates.
There have always been humans who thought:

1) The world will end soon
2) It will happen in a cool, exciting way
3) It’ll happen to me personally
4) I’ll be a martyred prophet, or a warlord, or otherwise special
5) People who don’t see this are lesser

“Sexy apocalypse” is a great phrase for that
Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

You have to be terminally consultantbrained to think "I voted with Republicans" is a winning campaign strategy in 2026
If you read through this thread, it consists entirely of people chewing her out for her transphobia and “voting with republicans”

I think “Vote Blue No Matter Who” is now ideologically dead

It lingers, but her attack ad was transphobic to the point of being absurd
Tonight an overwhelming bipartisan majority voted 262-159 to pass Russia Sanctions legislation I led, and aid our ally Ukraine in her fight for Freedom and Liberty as they approach a long, cold, winter. Just like in WWII we stand with Liberty first, now, and always. Freedom means never surrender.

When I stop just before a scene that I know is going to mess me up and say, "It would be a good idea to spend the rest of the day on edits, and start tomorrow morning bright and early by writing the scene that will emotionally destroy me!"

Because I am VERY smart

588-2300-EMPIREEEEEE!

If you know, you just heard it in your head.
Many years ago I worked for Expedia. Do you have ANY idea how many people sang the "Dot COMMM" jingle at me when I told them where I worked?

(hint: most of them)
Capitalism and the combination of growing up & absorbing media in the 80s and 90s are crazy. I cant be the only person who has a repository of advertising jingles forever lodged into my brain that will never go away and that I find myself humming deep in the back of my head like a gotdang jumpscare.

I just love contacting customer support with a tech problem, writing a thorough ticket saying "Here are the exact steps I've taken to troubleshoot the problem so far," and getting a response saying "Please try (doing the exact thing I just said I did)"

Helluva Boss season three trailer is up and oh no, my heart. This season's going to hurt.

One of my favorite scenes in cinema is at the end of Streets of Fire (spoilers for a 40 year old movie) Not the sledgehammer duel (which is amazing!), but when all the locals come running into the street to protect their neighborhood. And the bikers are like "Oh...shit. We should GO."
at a professional level I am kinda fascinated by how storytelling and pop culture have deeply ingrained the idea of the devious supervillain but not the one about the town coming together to save the day
Even a lot of people on the left are still way too stuck on the idea that wealthy powerful people got that way by being smart and making plans and forming accurate reads on the world and it’s really just not like that, sorry, the truth is so much stupider

Either side of it
Either side of it
Excuse me my brain is melting
Either side of it
PATEL: The previous regulation automatically disqualified any individual who participated in either side of it

KENNEDY: Either side of beastiality? So you disqualified the animal?

P: Well, we have great canines, but we're not going to disqualify them

K: I'm trying to understand why you did this.

Ed Sheeran won't comment on this because between pedophiles and non-pedophiles, he wouldn't want to alienate his fans by picking a side.

There is a deep sickness not just in the sociopathic oligarchs themselves, but the cultural cult of wealth-worship. Protectors of our institutions are paralyzed, like they can't even mentally conceive of holding a rich person accountable, and our media treats "a CEO said a thing" as headline news.
The U.S. has a gigantic problem (well, several, but this is a biggie.) Once an individual reaches a certain plateau of wealth, there are absolutely no consequences for corruption. It's reached a point of utter absurdity how much corrupt crap the wealthy get away with.

Thank you! I think about those books a lot. The Revanche Cycle was, commercially, a flop. BUT, they directly led to the Wisdom's Grave trilogy, my best-reviewed books ever, and a wonderful friendship with my narrator Susannah. Not a cash success, but still a success and one I'm grateful for.
Just finished the Revanche Cycle by @craigschaeferbooks.com. It was a joy. Part of a larger connected world, and yet almost completely independent enough that it felt like a dream from that world. In the past 2 years I've listened to about 20 books from this author. So, I guess I recommend them!

I just saw someone admonishing someone trans to shut up about trans rights because there are concentration camps in the US, and you know who I see overwhelmingly and disproportionately on the front lines standing up against concentration camps?

Trans people.

This action scene was not working, at all. Then I thought, "Hey, maybe I should add emotional stakes that parallel the physical ones, and focus on the protagonist's inner goals?"

And wouldn't ya just know it, it suddenly worked. There might be something to this whole "writing" business.

"You want my position on trans people competing in women's sports? Which ones? Name them, specificially. If it's such a sweeping societal problem, you must have a list of trans athletes. Who exactly are we talking about, and what sports do they play?"

Reject the framing. It's that easy.

The Silent Night, Deadly Night 2025 remake (really a reimagining, has very little to do with the original) was utterly delightful. Want to see a heroic axe-wielding serial killer take out a literal Nazi party? It has that. This may be my new favorite Christmas movie.

In Massachusetts, we have a responsibility to protect the vulnerable and stand up for those who need it. We don’t throw trans kids under the bus for political points. We protect them—and all of our neighbors—because trans rights are human rights.

ITS THE FUCKING MUPPET SHOW

YOU LITERALLY DID THE FORMULA, AGAIN, AND EVERYONE LOVED IT

YOU DONT NEED TO REINVENT THE WHEEL, PEOPLE WANT THE MUPPETS
There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival.

Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on.

Any reporter who repeats Trump's claim that he's going to pay $5k to everyone if the GOP wins the midterms, and doesn't bring up his promise of $5k DOGE checks that were never sent, is lying by omission.
