Hurricane Isaias has shut in 1.28 million barrels per day of US Gulf oil, 62.89% of output, and 57.35% of Gulf gas.

121 of 371 manned platforms have been evacuated.

A rather neat example of how dumb it is to double down on fossil fuels during a climate breakdown

A lab worker’s death after a reported accident in Russia has raised concern for #plague.

A reminder: As the US dismantles public health, we weaken our ability to detect and contain the next threat.

Cutting surveillance doesn’t eliminate danger. It makes us slower to see it.

It was such a treat to find these gorgeous little green cup mushrooms in the forest this morning. Usually all I can ever find is the bright turquoise mycelia in the rotting wood. Finding the thumbnail size fruiting bodies is pretty rare for me. Their colour is unreal. 🍄🌿

Just a couple hundred miles from Mexico's southwestern coast, Hurricane Polo strengthens even further.

Polo has recently recorded a central pressure of 892 millibars, making it the second most-intense Eastern Pacific hurricane on record, behind 2015's Hurricane Patricia.

Hurricane Polo's rapid intensification is seriously impressive... A special 19Z update was issued by the NHC stating that reconnaissance aircraft found that Polo's central pressure is sitting at 892 mb, the 2nd strongest EPAC hurricane by pressure only behind Hurricane Patricia (2015; 872 mb).
