This might sound weird but I'd like to be treated like a citizen without having to kiss anyone's ring of have anyone kiss any ring on my behalf.
I get that "people have inherent and inalienable rights" is a new concept in the history of man but it's been emphatic in the US for 250 years.

Anyone who asks for a gov't issue parachute before they need it knows they'll need one soon, which ironically enough means the gov't shouldn't give them one until they are already out of the crashing plane.
Alex Karp of Palantir says the AI industry must be nationalized to protect it from lawsuits if it accidentally destroys the world. More likely, he sees the bubble about to burst and he wants to be bought out with our tax dollars before that happens.

Look, I'm gonna be frank with you: from a marketing prespective, "Defend our future" as a slogan doesn't hit the same when everyone holding the sign looks like they consider green bananas a risky investment.

If I had a nickel or every time I found out that effective altruist/post-humanists end up more involved in weird ass polycules and sex parties than actually trying to save anyone at all, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but weird that it's happened twice!

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

My favorite bit this election cycle is every PAC running GOP-adjacent ads do so without even mentioning the GOP candidate's name. It's 100% negative, but they're scared you might Google the name Mike Collins.
