UCD Press author Maria Butler (@mariabutler.bsky.social) has a fantastic piece in the Irish Examiner this week about Marian Keyes and women’s commercial fiction.

Imagine my delight when this one was discussed at the editorial meeting. Great column from Alan Healy about the unprecedented economic success Limerick is enjoying - even with that note of caution.

Love how this week we’ve been told by the UN that keeping global warming at 1.5 degrees is now gone and we’re deciding to delay increasing carbon tax, increasing the price of public transport and paying through the nose to cut excise duties. Love that.
Another postponement of the carbon tax increase is “on the table” in Budget talks, Transport and Climate Minister Darragh O’Brien tells @thejournal.ie, calling it a way to ease costs on businesses.

Well it appears that the UK political and media class have decided that tutting loudly is the most appropriate response to a large gang of masked racists.

Utterly pathetic.
Europe has a far right problem and the US government plus various tech bros are encouraging it. The centre right insofar as it remains is stuck in paralysis as to what to do, and much of the media likewise, including supposedly "progressive" titles (yes you, staggers).

This government's attitude that spending money on public services is some kind of terrible loss to the state coffers rather than THEIR ACTUAL JOB is going to tip me over the edge, I stg.
Irish Times subheading on that story about increases in public transport fares:

"Rising cost of State funding for public services has been a spending concern for some time"
