Crystal Dragons from “Seven Ways Through the Woods” (out today!)
A girl with blonde hair wearing blue overalls looks through a spyglass as she floats down a sparkling, light-dappled forest river on a raft made up of woven rainbow dragons. There are seven dragons, each a different color of the rainbow, and they overlap to create a white glow beneath the girl’s feet. In the back are mossy trees and tall river reeds.

Tashan Mehta's lush prose reads as a hazy fairy tale; its ruminations on setting and sisterhood, pieced from different narrators across different formats, earns Mad Sisters of Esi its position as one of Reactor's most highly anticipated novels of the year:

Fantasy religions often feel like reskins either of ancient Greek or Norse pantheons or of the medieval Catholic church. But what more interesting choices can we make when building faith within an invented world?
