Today it is ever so slightly cooler than yesterday, so I declared it fall already and made a batch of apple cider muffins from Sprinkle Bakes.
They are absolutely delicious.

Honestly, Doulas Adams was a bit dated even when I was introduced to his stuff oh... 20 years ago? I liked it regardless, but I bet it's a harder sell with the Kids These Days.
The beautiful thing is, that's why we continue to need new books by new authors. Someone else will capture that spark.
Elsewhere on Bluesky folks are noting that The Kids These Days aren't much into Douglas Adams. As someone who is much into Douglas Adams (and in fact wrote an intro to new edition of his works) allow me to remind folks that it's not actually surprising when The Kids aren't into decades-old stuff.

Once you understand the corporate culture of AI hyperscalers is everyone cooking their brains by locking themselves in the bathroom, holding flashlights under their chins, and saying "Aaaaaaaaaay Eyeeeeeee" until they wet themselves in terror, things snap into focus:

When my whole family tussles me up and throws me into the nearest gator-infested pond, I'll be yelling "US CPSC told me to do it!!" the entire time
If you're headed to work right now, thanks. If you're already at work, thanks again. If you're just waking up, there's nothing more exhilarating than testing the fire alarm at 7AM.

Me, yesterday: Not right now, 9yo. Maybe we can play the game later.
9yo, forlornly: I just lost The Game. :(

So I guess I've successfully passed that millennial pastime onto the next generation >:)

It's (much) too far for me to make it, but if you're in the area, go! Marissa *and* Naomi chatting for an hour?? That is going to be a fun convo.
Some of my neighbor friends were surprised to hear that the nervous feeling of "nobody will come and also there won't be enough food" is not just for throwing "regular" parties, it's also for book launch parties. But it sure is. Oh geez. It sure is. So...Thursday evening at 6:00 at Moon Palace....

I initially parroted the received wisdom that bright colors are important for a baby's development in the comments, but now that I'm trying to find that research... of course it's turning out be a bit more complicated.

That's a sprint triathlon exactly 6 months from now... 👀👀👀
I've started running after I bike the kids to school, which is fine, except now when I jump back onto my bike afterwards I've started wanting to stop by the city pool for a few laps.

There are very real safety concerns we need to address with generative LLMs. Deepfakes, privacy, AI psychosis, etc

We don't need to entertain goofy nonsense from people claiming they're inventing the torment nexus from the science fiction classic "Dipshit That's Not The Torment Nexus Go Outside."

Folks are sleeping on The Imaginary Corpse
Lathe of Heaven, The Princess Bride, and The Last Unicorn are all classics for good reason.

But more recently Tyler Hayes wrote The Imaginary Corpse, a noir detective story starring a stuffed triceratops toy and it is absolutely brilliant.

He does *such* a good job.
Listening to the Abhorsen audio books for the first time, read by Tim Curry.

For someone who's such a big theatrical force, his narration is so... warm. Comfortable.

I'm glad that, even after his passing, I can keep finding and being moved by the art he made.

This morning I saw a claim that trans women have "taken" 900 medals and championships from cis women (no, those are not the terms they used, how did you know?).

I did something I don't usually do: I went to the TERF source.
