My statement following the defeat of the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill in the House of Commons.
This is hugely disappointing for thousands of terminally ill people and their loved ones. The law as it stands is simply too cruel and unjust.

Today is deja vu.
The elected House of Commons has passed this bill already.
A small number of unelected peers have no right to block legislation which commands support of the Commons.
For many, no amount of safeguards will be enough.

My mum wanted the details of her death heard. She strongly believed in the right to die & had a living will.

MPs supported Assisted Dying (Leadbeater Bill) only to have Peers wreck the Bill by tabling vexatious amendments. Most people in the country, including disabled people, support it. About time it passed, not least for the sake of democracy.
