Realistically, I’m not happy we can’t have our own Zohran. But we actually don’t need a Zohran at city hall - we need one at Queen’s Park.

Also, the lack of conversation about the province’s chilling effect on municipal vision can’t be understated. Step too far out of line with Doug Ford’s vision of Toronto and you might as well not even be mayor.

It’s not to say more vision wouldn’t play in the downtown core, or with the progressive demo that makes up the Bluesky commentariat. But realistically the only way to win in this city is to be relatively boring on the campaign trail.

The problem is that there are enough voters in the suburban reaches of the city that would see visionary ideas as a threat to their way of living that she would functionally be giving away the election.
Toronto remains a sad conservative town with Protestant tendencies.

I've been talking about this since the 2023 election, and I keep landing in the same place. Chow wants to be Toronto's Chief Administrator, not its visionary leader. She doesn't think in terms of big swings. Her ethos is "slow and steady, work the system", and that's all we'll ever get from her.
The latest Toronto Star column by @graphicmatt.com argues Olivia Chow needs to be bold for her re-election campaign instead of playing it safe. Would have been nice if she could be more vocal with pedestrianization including bringing back open streets. #WalkTO #TOpoli www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Matt Elliott: Olivia Chow’s campaign is playing it safe. Why now is the time to be bold
Despite a solid lead in polls, writes Matt Elliott, mayor shows little sign of seeking a mandate to advance an ambitious agenda.

They're the Nazi Paper. They love Trump who wants so badly to be Hitler. They know they have the power to direct the media narrative and news cycle. Including the smol bean NYT reporters who blame editors for bad headlines while both are still cashing those paychecks. At least own up to your role.

Because they have all the resources and reach in the world and are using their immense power and brand to get my trans friends killed, cover for Epstein pedos, and cape for the deranged lunatic in the WH when he threatens the second largest city in America

In Berlin's Hackescher Markt, a person living rough starts to pick at a plate load of food left behind on a patio table. Waiter invites her to sit down, sets her up with new cutlery, brings out a glass of water and bag of pretzels to take away.

Guess I need to update this post from a couple of weeks ago. Is that $70 billion in subsidies? (30 ongoing + 40 for pipeline)

So the entire value of o&g to the Canadian economy is given straight back to big oil?

Absolutely corrupt behaviour & a climate crime.
