I recall reading or seeing somewhere that in the old days, if a person was bring hanged and the rope broke, they were set free. Was this ever really a thing? Even if not, seems to me that if a person survives not just one but two attempts at executing them, maybe someone doesn't want them dead.

I have no idea why a movie theater would have shown a Danish silent short of “The Tinderbox” before a screening of “Bedknobs and Broomsticks,” but it was the first thing I ever saw in a movie theater and it still haunts my dreams. I was five.
