Just found out my wife might be losing her job, so I'm desperately searching for work. Contract, full-time, freelance, whatever. Press, PR, consulting, anything. I have 16 years of editorial experience and have been writing about games for 13. Reviews, news, previews, guides, etc. RTs appreciated.

Voidling Bound claws its way onto the cover of Debug #17!

We learn why it's time to forget everything you expect from monster taming. Hatchery Games is pushing the genre into stranger, darker, and far more unpredictable territory

This whole thread makes me feel like my scalp is on fire.

I feel like some of us have been shouting the bolded part here for years and they just tweeted it out (in court).
two different paragraphs, two different sections but encourage you to click and read the unsealed (pink) of both of them together. And stop and think about the impact and harm to news media and civil society. /8

if the game industry is going to keep using the slop machine to make slop for us, I will simply cease buying games. I have a library of non-slopmade games stretching back decades.

I think developers need to hurt their players more and The Blood of Dawnwalker plays with that idea very well. Kill the completionist in your head, destroy the idea that you need to see everything in an RPG.
But also...you could hurt me *more* Dawnwalker.

Can a Skybox Editor Find Readers After Risking Their Life in a Dungeon? Volume 15: Baroque by @hokutolucas.bsky.social

"In the distance looms a massive tower, a grotesque instrument of metallic musculature and organs. It looks like a machine begging the heavens for organic life."

Can a Skybox Editor Find Readers After Risking Their Life in a Dungeon? Volume 15: Baroque
This month's DRPG column is about Baroque, a grimy, cryptic Mystery Dungeon-like that's a real treat for sickos.

They fired so many artists over this too. People who helped make the game iconic were tossed out on the street because the Slop Faucet could do it "decent enough".
If you still play Fortnite, you're funding the hyper-acceleration of AI replacing Artists in Gaming

Seeing a lot of published writing in the last few days that is using Wolverine as a shorthand for "bad video game" or "everything wrong with the business" which seems both incredibly mean-spirited and also lazy, especially because it seems unlikely that everybody making that comparison has played it

When I was teaching, the first two things I would give my students were essays by Dillard. Several told me later those pieces fundamentally changed their outlook on a lot of things. What a career.

It's crazy how much better The Shining is as a novel than it is as a film, and the film is quite good

Welp. Starting in November, I will no longer be employed by IGN. It's been a hell of a ride and I cannot understate how much of an honor and a privilege the last 11+ years have been. This was a dream job, but the best part of IGN is, was, and always will be the people.

My debut for ButWhyTho is an exploration of the Disney era of Doctor Who, the failure of Russell T Davies second era and how ironic it is that the man who brought Doctor Who back also killed it.
Davies' Doctor Who: What Went Wrong With The RTD2 Era - But Why Tho?
Russell T Davies return to Doctor Who was supposed to be a new era for new fans, instead, the RTD2 era was too concerned with nostalgia.

We need to go back to bullying people who just regurgitate the opinions of YouTubers. This was *deeply* embarrassing behavior back in the day, and you were relentlessly and rightfully mocked for it.

You have to engage with the art yourself and have your own goddamn lived experiences.
“It was obviously made to make you subscribe to magazines and pay for the hint line”

I can tell when ppl state a reality purely from YT essays because I hear this all the time and I need you to actually enjoy life with your own hands, not to meet the zeitgeist or mark things off a letterboxd

This doesn't apply just to games, but also life: the greatest gift you can give yourself is allowing yourself to be uncomfortable. The second greatest gift is an indomitable spirit. You cannot control talent. You can be the hardest worker in any room you're in.
So funny that some people treat Super Metroid as an inaccessible game because it controls a little weird. Or honestly that people treat any of these games as inaccessible. They were made for children!! They were all like the easiest shit you could find that was actually good when they each came out!
