A poem about graffiti, of graffiti. Derived from bus stops and hostel walls throughout Europe in 2023.

I understand some people listen to sad music when they are sad.

Is this a form of masochism, or is it like an emotional sauna? Are these people in trouble or are they actually Feelings Athletes?

Don’t take any sentiment expressed in a form that has a character limit too seriously.

It’s always better to be part of the show than witnessing it. That’s why people dream about being movie stars, and not sitting in a movie theatre.

Is this platform good for sharing this sort of thing?

Pet theory: I think there is a relationship between the decline of dining and entertainment spaces with a dress code, and the advent of Google Maps.

Do monkeys and apes look at us the way we look at them? Like, hey there are some similarities there? Or is it just an us thing?

Museums should have “Church Hours”, where during worship there is no talking.

Follow me! It’s actually the law that you have to follow me. But don’t look it up, though. It’s also the law that you can’t look it up. Thems the breaks.

Should writers have to read to be writers? Apparently this is a big controversy right now.

Let me know your answer, whether you write, and whether you read. Also let me know if you have bona fides. We can settle this with numbers!

This poem was originally published in American Writers Journal a decade ago. Do you think it holds up, or is it mid?

It's becoming clear that those who welcome AI are the incompetent, the incapable, those who wish something could level the playing field for them, and those with nothing to offer. Because if they were otherwise, if they could make anything themselves, they wouldn't need it.

For some reason I hate the term “creative writing." And I similarly disdain the term “Creative” when used as an occupational noun to refer to anyone whose work touches, howsoever remotely, art.

There is no one less interesting than someone who acts comfortable because they have made some money.

I wonder if fascism will one day end Christian America. When the actions of Christian’s are pressed ever flatter, without joining, against the wall of their supposed faith, will they eventually abandon it even in their lip service? Or will a new Christian America be born?

Do you dislike portraits? Not get them, or why people enjoy them? Think they're boring?

I can help.

Wondering if anyone here has any experience on meetup.com? Either as an organizer or an attendee. Writing a deep dive (code phrase for criticism) and would love any feedback on the platform.

It’s tempting to lambast the litmag scene. I, too, hate all those who rejects me. But I’ve met writers who got published in good mags. They also hated the process, but were the best I knew. The work deserved it. If yours does too, you’ll get there.

New feed update: now it’s all about “how to write your book in 2026.” Apparently you need entire articles to help you do that. Starting to wonder how many actual writers who just, you know, write are actually online at all.

"Literary scenes", from what I can tell, is code for “parties for young, horny people who write terrible stuff, have never been published, nor really seem inclined to try.” And that does sound fun, but the term for that is “Brooklyn nepo-baby polycule”, my dudes.

A new article about the sinister aesthetics of NYC's newest AI advertising affliction, conversations with robo-Soulja Boy, and despair.

I think it's pretty good.

I refuse to find out to what the word “clavicular” everyone is slipping into their notes on here means or is referring to. This way I can convince myself I’m not becoming an “online person”.
