Let's be really clear: Paul Goldsmith asked MoJ to find him cost justifications to restrict the OIA.

They've done so. The numbers are largely bogus - inflating numbers of *recorded* OIA requests.

A serious assault on our right to information

Mainzeal liquidation is still going!? That's longer than Wynyard Group!
High Court accepts liquidator’s claim, orders QBE to pay Mainzeal additional $1 million under directors’ and officers’ liability insurance policy but dismisses claim that Mainzeal is also indemnified for GST.

Remind me about all those times when Western ‘leaders’ excused Israeli government or settler activities by calling Israel ‘the only democracy in the Middle East’.

Healthy democracies don’t deprive their citizens of citizenship for exercising their right to freedom of expression.

I don't believe any "tradies suffering from slowdown" stories. Every time I need work done I have to approach multiple companies and chase them up repeatedly to even get one quote. Most of them just won't answer the phone or return messages.

There's a glaring omission from this story, and the IPCA press release it was written from: any mention of consequences. The IPCA "agrees with the outcome reached" - what outcome?

An officer committed serious misconduct after using the police database to check potential neighbours and flatmates and sharing information with his partner.

If only two members of MSF allegedly having links to a terrorist organisation makes it also a terrorist organisation, proscription of the IDF should be a doddle.
No, this is not a joke.

UK Lawyers for Israel are trying to proscribe *Médecins Sans Frontières*.

That’d mean they’d be treated as terrorists.

On the same legal footing as ISIS.

Membership would mean 14 years in prison.

This is what we’re dealing with

Another angle on the first point - the relationship between house prices and the number of people employed in the economy. What do you see? In the last 20 years, houses price growth has *led* employment growth. If you understand how bank mortgage lending works, this makes sense. [3/3]

A campaign for *MSF* to be banned as a terrorist group (on the paper thin basis of claims about 2 past employees) is the product of the UK Govt being willing to divorce any meaningful conception of societal threat from its use of proscription powers. Govt needs to wake up to the madness of this:

If you care about governments being held accountable, then you need to know about disastrous cuts being planned for Archives NZ and the National Library.

These cuts don't just make it much harder to do history. They undermine the institutions at the heart of our democracy.
Newsroom talked to PHANZA President Matthew Woodbury about further cuts at the National Library and Archives NZ.

He says "It’s only when one zooms out that you can see the effect of all of these cuts. These institutions ... are critical cultural infrastructure."
