Our Maddock Fellowships for 2026-7 are still open until Thursday 30th July!
Many thanks to the Maddock Research Fellowship at @marshslibrary.bsky.social and the Fitzpatrick Family Foundation UCD School of Law, for supporting my research on women's inheritance in #c17th #Ireland. This support has been invaluable and is greatly appreciated.

So, for those interested in tech companies' liability in algorithmic accountability, here's a piece written by @iainnash.bsky.social
which will be of interest.

Why an EU ruling about a traffic app could have major implications for big tech companies
Big tech platforms argue they simply store and display information created by others, so should not be seen as legally responsible for it.

Safely home after a great week at the 2026 British Legal History Conference in Nottingham. So many interesting papers, events, & opportunities to discuss #legalhist, only augmented my positive feedback on my paper. Thanks to all involved in organising this. See you in Aberdeen on 2028! #blhc2026

I made it to the #hollywoodsign🎬
(In Co. #Wicklow)

A new #Hollywood sign was opened recently in the 'original' Hollywod.

Before the launch, it was a lovely surprise to receive a mention on the @olivercallanshow when he was discussing the new sign.

especially pissed off to learn they’ve been making delicious salty butter out of our most famous horse
Kerrygold is great. Not disputing that.

But the Irish are going to be so pissed off when they find out we make better butter than them.

3% salt content compared with 1.8% in Kerrygold. That'll put inches on your chest

My latest Lawfare piece is out!

I look at the recent #latombe case and the impact it will have on #EU / #US #dataprotection and #data #flows.

In Sept. the General Court of the EU rejected a case which sought to strike down the European Commission's approval of the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The dismissal leaves the DPF legally untested in Europe and vulnerable to political shifts in Washington, writes @iainnash.bsky.social.
The European Commission’s Rejection of Latombe
The rejection leaves the DPF politically fragile, legally untested at the Court of Justice, and vulnerable to shifts in Washington.

One of the more unusual things I've found when doing some work in the fields, I have to say. A Woody's alcoholic lemonade bottle!. It was described as "wickedly refreshing" when launched in to the Irish market nearly 30 years ago, in 1996!
