I am almost never on here, but some of you were my pals elsewhere on the internet before Bluesky, and perhaps you remember our little dog Daphne.

I am sad to share that Daphne died last night. Already I have cried and cried and I know that I will cry more. She was a very good girl.

I was appalled by how bad I thought the 1991 Cape Fear was—Juliette Lewis was terrific, but otherwise… gah. Wooden performance by Jessica Lange, Robert De Niro chewing the scenery so hard he was probably pulling splinters out of his teeth for years afterward, and Nick Nolte being… there.

Does anyone know someone who might be able to help me—my Lyft account has been frozen for months now, I spoke to Support and they allegedly bumped it up, and then they said it had to go even higher up the chain, & now it’s been weeks & weeks. No one can tell me why my account was frozen.

A really interesting (& brutal) piece about the commodification of Black identity in the art market in 2020-2022, & the opportunists who inflated art prices, only to devalue the same Black artists later
Rachel Corbett reports on how the Black portraiture boom went bust. The racial reckoning of 2020 sent prices soaring. Now, no one’s buying.

A dorky question (and tailored-made, I think, for @bcdreyer.social): I often want to put a comma after an independent clause even if the clause that comes after it is a dependent one—because I hear it in my head as having a pause. What’s the rule there? What’s best practice w/literary fiction?
