I have the most amazing students at SRJC. They regularly surprise me with their knowledge, curiosity, and how cool they are. They come up with amazing questions, insights, interpretation, and analysis. They come from such amazingly different experiences & life stages and that makes my job so fun.

I created a zine final project for this semester. I just realized I can give the assignment to my students AS A ZINE.

It’s such a bummer. Online/asynchronous/virtual teaching can be incredibly valuable and with a little extra structure can be an amazing and scalable resource but now AI has rendered the whole enterprise impossible.

“AI IS NOT A PEDAGOGICAL CRISIS, IT’S A LABOR CRISIS.”

I want to tattoo this on my forehead.
Here’s the thing: I could probably come up with lots of creative, AI-proof online approaches. But finding the time to reflect an innovate comes at a premium. I often revamp my courses, but this is an order of magnitude much higher in redesign. AI is not a pedagogical crisis, it’s a labor crisis.

The battle was lost when universities saw asynchronous learning as an easy source of revenue and let students pay full freight for poorly constructed courses

I'm looking for a first-day reading for my humanities course this fall that can help demonstrate the difference between "I can basically understand all the words" reading and "I can fully integrate knowledge of context, references, etc." reading for incoming first years. Suggestions? #AcademicSky

Mitch McConnell hasn’t been seen or heard from in 25 days in the hospital.

Yet he still has a job, still getting paid, and getting unlimited world class healthcare.

The man who voted against a living wage, against universal healthcare, and against guaranteed paid leave, is now getting all three.

TMZ DC with perhaps the most brutal video from Trump's Great American State Fair, showing Dr. Oz on stage bragging to Dean Cain about how big the crowd is, only for the reporter to pan around and show absolutely nobody is there.

Surgery update: recovery is going well. I'm still sore, but not in significant pain most of the time. All badges are off and the incision looks like Frankenhip. I decided to jump back into work for a couple hours, reading Asma's book "Monsters: An Unnatural History of Our Worst Fears."

Do you want to watch a piece of media that is deeply pro-choice while also being unashamedly pro-sex?

Dirty Dancing. It's a movie about the necessity of safe and legal abortion without question or shame.
