I created a collaborative murder mystery for my kid's tenth birthday party, and they said it finally earned me their respect as a game designer.

Not sure if I should be flattered by the compliment or insulted by the subtle burn on my published games. Either way, tweens make life hilarious and fun.

RIP Dollys. I got to visit Dolly the sheep this summer in Scotland. Little did I know that her namesake, Dolly Parton, would pass soon after. (It's true, Dolly was created from mammary cells, so scientists named the world’s first cloned mammal after her!) fascinarygames.com/rest-in-peac...

Everything moves so fast now. It's impossible to give every event the care and attention it deserves, especially when the bar is "at least no one died."

But what happened in Portland outside the ICE building was evidence of yet another escalation—and a terrifying harbinger of things to come.

adrienne maree brown on liberatory #game nights and the healing power of playing together: "I know others are struggling as much as I am, in the existential swirl of it all, so it feels good to say, you know what we need to do? Laugh together. Letting ourselves play feels really important."
"How do we build the future on a deep yes, a deep longing for what we want?"

PLAY IS POLITICAL. 🎲

In Victorian times, ladies played patience games like solitaire to perform being quiet and contained. Today, many hit strategy games celebrate conquest and resource extraction.

When we play a game, we’re taking in the stories and politics that shape its design.

Black bears, once common in Big Bend National Park, were wiped out by the 1950s due to hunting and habitat loss caused by settlers and ranchers. By the late '90s, the bears began to be seen again, and today there are about 30–40 bears in the park.
