A new post is up at #FindingFaithAgain. I’ve been a bit quiet lately — turns out I’m thinking about writing a fiction book, which has me reflecting on penultimate moments.

The moments just before everything changes.

I started reading Buechner’s The Clown and the Belfry and came across a line: “Faith is homesickness… less a sure thing than a hunch.” It made me realize I am not sure I have ever really answered, in a deeper way, the question of what faith actually is.

What Is Faith?
I have a hunch that what we hope is true just might be. What I’m learning about faith from Buechner, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, and Trotter.

I wrote about a painting on my wall and I’m starting to think we don’t see as much as we think we do. Also: “apocalypse” doesn’t mean what we’ve been taught it means. #faith #hope

Early Christians carved two words into tombs beneath Rome:
Noli timere — Do not be afraid. Which raises an interesting question. Why would people write “do not fear” in a place dedicated to death?

What happens when we still believe in God and still affirm resurrection, yet find ourselves struggling to imagine how things could actually change in the world around us? I call this imaginative depletion. #FindingFaithAgain #Lent #Resurrection #Hope

Imaginative Depletion
Has your imagination for what God can do and how things can change become so small as to be almost non-existent? You aren't alone, friend.

I’m almost done with The Brothers Karamazov and I did not expect Dmitri to become my favorite disaster of a human.

Still thinking about this line and how uncomfortably close it feels to Romans 7.

I’ve been thinking about what makes a life legible — not impressive or persuasive, just readable as belonging to something deeper. This one was shaped by Scripture, a lot of internal questions, and my unexpected love for The Brothers Karamazov.
