got to the bottom of this pretty quick: european countries didn't ban Ninja, the UK did, meaning the English version seen in Europe cut the word. however Italy, like Quebec, legally mandates all imported film and television be dubbed by local actors. so they got ninjas
I smell misinformation. European countries banned the word “ninja” for children’s television, which is why the show there was called Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.
