I last wrote about Europe’s economy about five months ago and I had said that the EU needs to come to grips with the geo-economic challenges that it faces. In that piece, I had focused on the deep dependencies that Europe has developed with large powers such as the US and Russia, and perhaps also with China more recently. I think that they need to overcome these dependencies and develop strong domestic capacities, especially in light of the Mario Draghi Report on improving Europe’s competitiveness and the need for reforms.

Only recently I wrote about corporate India’s earnings for the June quarter of FY27 which were reasonably good, although one must point out that the effects of the Iran war hadn’t fully been felt in the June quarter. Now, it’s time for us to look forward to the September quarter of FY27, which will probably reflect the impact of both the wars better and we could soon see many Indian companies raising prices because commodity and input costs have gone up significantly.

When I last wrote a blog post on India two months ago, it was about how we shouldn’t be tying up the Indian economy in knots and that we ought to be liberalising our import duty structure and implementing other reforms to incentivise investment by the private sector in new job-creating ventures. The economy is still the most important issue that should be occupying the minds of our country’s leaders, especially the creation of new and better jobs.

I am talking about Aston Martin, of course. Hard to imagine that the ultimate rescue vehicle for 007 is now itself in need of rescuing. I was quite surprised by the news that Aston Martin is in financial trouble and that its Q2 2026 earnings were very disappointing. I wonder why this should be, and since I have written a lot about JLR’s corporate brand strategy and campaign as well as brand strategies and campaigns for Land Rover and Jaguar separately, I thought I might turn my attention to Aston Martin.
