A sad story about how the CDC has been politicized. And a loss for everyone. The work the CDC did made us all healthier.

Similar things are happening at NIH, but the timetable is slower due to (you!) fighting back. However, the new Trump NIH Institute director hires will push us down this 👇 road
“As of May 2026, the C.D.C. had 30 percent fewer employees than it did before the layoffs…Interviews with more than 30 current & former employees reveal the agency is now tightly controlled by Mr. Kennedy and his associates, and its scientists are finding it increasingly difficult to do their jobs”
‘Zombified’ C.D.C., Hobbled by Cuts, Struggles to Fulfill Scientific Mission
The agency has lost its independence and nearly a third of its staff, as Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and associates have tightened control.

Telling my child how I can never go through the Pentagon metro station without thinking of riding by around noon on 9/11. The station was completely dark and the train utterly silent as we inched through. May the memories of those who were lost be a blessing today, 25 years later.

Our lab is hiring a postdoc! You would work with clinical partners and the All of Us study to implement our genetic literacy measure, studying how people understand genetics and use it daily. Help us do social and behavioral research at the forefront of genomics: careers.ashg.org/jobs/22449118

Who benefits from this vaccine executive order that is not based on facts or science?
It’s not you as a taxpayer.
It’s not you as a parent.
It’s not your kids.
It’s not you as a human exposed to infections.
It’s not anyone autistic.
It’s not scientists.
Keep asking: who benefits?
Credit where due, this is good.

10/ So if you're a parent wondering, "What am I supposed to do right now?" here's my answer: nothing has changed about your ability to vaccinate your child today. You can still follow the existing schedule; your doctor can still provide those vaccines, and they remain free.
August 10, 2026 at 8:52 PM
As this article says, “vaccines have been examined thoroughly and repeatedly ruled out as a contributor.” Instead of wasting more money, gold-standard science would let us develop better supports for autistic people and their families. Or we’d keep Head Start & programs that all families need.

We literally just had a very productive intramural health disparities workshop at NIH, where the director praised NIMHD and told us that health disparities workshop was an important part of the NIH portfolio. There is great work that will improve the lives and life expectancy of everyone.
Gotta hand it to this OMB spokesperson, this was a very successful ragebait! I’m mad! Appreciate these moments when the intent is clear…
