We studied the evolution of genome-wide linkage disequilibrium and its influence on genetic architecture with genetic drift.

We found that the Bulmer effect is population size and demography dependent.

For nerds: genetic architecture follows from solving PDEs.

I think administrators cowing to media pressure hurts the reputation of a university much more than piloting a long overdue and quite modest change to grading practices.
NEW: U. Mich is pumping the brakes on its plan to pass/fail first-semester freshmen in one of its colleges. The president wrote to admins that "distorted" media coverage of the plan could hurt the reputations of the university and its students. For @chronicle.com: www.chronicle.com/article/u-of...
U. of Michigan Leaders Hit the Brakes on Pass/Fail
Citing “distorted narratives” about the university’s students in the news media, the president said more “input, analysis, and discussion” is needed before the pilot project begins.

Today I went deep into Michigan's run game issues in the 1st half. Short version: I think defenses are triggering off motion to stop Beck's favorite stuff (Jet opposite QB power). The good news is he adjusted.

What can we learn about a single rare variant?
Published today in Science: the 23andMe Research Institute and Dana-Farber studied the EGFR T790M in 10.1M 23andMe research participants. The variant has OR = 25.2 for lung cancer, rising to 61.7 in never-smokers(!). 🧵

This is a very nice review article from @pontus-skoglund.bsky.social and @mathiesoniain.bsky.social . Figure 2 gives a very nice summary of the different ways selection tests are calibrated. They also offer 5 succinct summaries of the current state of the field for humans.

She grew up in the Bronx. Ethnically Puerto Rican, her dad Sergio, an architect, died when she was 19. Her mother cleaned houses, drove a school bus.
