Dear tv and radio producers. Thankyou for the invitation. But, no, I do not want to appear on your show to defend the idea that I am English, after 50 years of living and working here, because the increasingly feral right want to turn this into a "debate" and you cannot see how you're being played

This is a really good point.
So are Ofcom just going to sit back and let US techbros live stream an execution to the UK in December?

What does Burnham have to say about it?

This is absolutely damning. A must-read.
Kemi Badenoch wants to exempt the family home from inheritance tax.

But that creates a perverse incentive for elderly people to *upsize* to save IHT.

That could double the cost of the policy, and push £100bn+ from savings into housing.

A 🧵 on bad tax cuts.

I've just been reading Albert Speer's Inside the Third Reich for a thing and Trump definitely resembles late-stage Hitler: surrounded by sycophants, rejecting all criticism, denying facts about the war he's losing, making mad declarations, seeing enemies everywhere. Not great
Again he’s really losing it with the AI stuff now

Crazy Rupert Lowe has a new angle.

Ban folic acid in flour.

Follows a mandate that all non-wholemeal wheat flour must be fortified with synthetic folic acid (vitamin B9) by the end of December 2026 to prevent upward of 200 neural tube birth defects including spina bifida and anencephaly each year

There should be a maptag style game where you have to guess which year between 1538 and 1910 someone in Sussex named their child "Creature".

We made a whole season about the complex history and different meanings of socialism and he just comes out and nails it in a sentence. Damn
Q: How do you define socialism personally?

JD VANCE: I think in reality what it actually means in the American context is you want to replace American workers with foreigners workers, and you want boys to play in girls' sports

This being an item on Radio 4 is such a perfect encapsulation of political and media class brain worms:

-it’s deeply racist;

-it’s nasty and mean spirited;

-it’s a totally manufactured “controversy” being kept alive by people in the Westminster bubble;

-and as a topic, it’s so fucking BORING!
‘Now we turn to the controversy that is what is it to be English?’ Nick Robinson says on radio 4 today before talking about Badenoch and Braverman

Couldn’t turn the dial quick enough

I'm sorry if this is obvious but the Tory proposal to exempt family homes completely from IHT will lead to

1] pensioners buying the biggest houses they possibly can

2] pensioners refusing to downsize

which can only be bad news for younger families trying to buy family homes

Chris Philp, "All Reform UK have to offer is the financial probity of Nigel Farage"

"The calm geniality of Zia Yusuf"

"The selfless loyalty of Robert Jenrick"

"All of that is available at the bargain basement price of £72 million"

Bring back the crime-free paradise depicted in Kings Cross by the Pet Shop Boys and the movie Mona Lisa
I get the appeal of nostalgia, I really do, but I find it specifically funny to get a leaflet from Reform's candidate talking about how when he was in the Met 31 years ago, he would never have dreamed of lawlessness like the kind we now see in Kings Cross.

What's interesting about the British food discourse is that unlike the septics, the French don't turn up and say "why are you eating those, haven't you tried cassoulet?" or the Spanish with fabada.
Because they understand that It. Isn't. The. Same. Thing.
I think i should clarify my position re: british. It's not that beans for breakfast is wrong. You misunderstand. It's that THOSE beans are ALWAYS wrong.

those beans are awful. It's like you've never even met a bean. We want to prevent cruelty to beans.

Try some huevos rancheros and ASCEND.

Let me cut through the BS platitude in Isabelle Oakshott’s latest vile post and summaries what she’s claiming

“RNLI are bringing illegal immigrants from France to Britain for the Nothing to do with saving lives. The RNLI is aiding and abetting the invasion of our country, they are your enemy”
