Autumn Omens 4:
Acorn candy, acorn jam, acorn slaw, acorn buttons, acorn hats for tree frogs.
A bird watches YOU.
Forgetting to go outside.
Garden spiders among the dead coneflowers.
Signing the dark one's book and kissing his "face behind."
Cocteau Twins lyrics make sense.

Autumn Omens 2026

A hole in the ground seems cozy.
Strange Times by The Chameleons.
Walking at 7PM is like walking at 3AM.
A mouse would like a word.
The garden looks tortured, but for the asters.
Golden rod is not a weed.
Ray Bradbury.
Any small living thing is an imp.
A thread of my Autumn omens:
1.
Angry honeybees asking for cola.
Apples with one bite taken out, left in the gutter by toddlers.
A puddle of soft serve with leaves stuck in it.
The King of Mushrooms eating a tree.

If you don’t know anyone with this story it’s because people aren’t telling you the truth about their health. Or you don’t keep up with your suddenly MIA friends. Or maybe you know 20 people? Long covid is common and it happens to vaccinated previously healthy people as well as “the vulnerable”.

This is common. This exact story happened to multiple IRL friends not just internet folks.
My partner has long COVID/POTS and it has been at times devastating. She's slowly improving and learning to cope with different supplements and diet but there are still days she simply cannot get out of bed. She was fine prior to 2021 and since a mild bout of COVID (we're vaxxed) she's disabled.

it literally could not be easier to run against an opponent who is fixated on a microscopic minority that isn’t actually harming anyone! focusing on imaginary threats posed by trans people instead of the world burning down around us is bad politics! point that out! loudly!
"My opponent wants to hire creeps to inspect your daughter's genitals if she wants to play soccer. I wouldn't trust him or any hired weirdo from his pedophile-protecting party alone in a room with any kid."

Go on the offensive, you cowards! It's not that hard!
"This election is about the threat of trans kids" is the worst possible messaging for Dems yet so many candidates are leaning into it. No voter will flip R->D over it. Low-info voters read this as "you're focused on bullshit that doesn't affect me" while the base reads this as "you're an asshole."

We should rate our anxiety on a scale of fictional characters. For example, I’ve been operating at a “Holly Hunter in Broadcast News” level for the last three days

Jennifer Kent kicked off "elevated horror" in 2014 with THE BABADOOK. Her next film flopped, and she never made another. Ana Lily Amirpour made A GIRL WALKS HOME ALONE AT NIGHT; her next film flopped, now she directs TV episodes. *Julia Ducournau* had a movie out last year & I didn't hear about it.
My touchiness in re: Schoenbrun is that, look, they're a rising queer director, they're getting lots of exposure, so there's backlash. Tall poppies get cut. If they were a white cis man, we'd all love them again by the next movie. But we don't live in a world where a next Schoenbrun is guaranteed!

If you never had your whole shit rocked by "I'm Going Home" in a small-town repertory house before the Obama administration, you do in fact need to sit this one out, I'm sorry!

This is not to minimize the larger problems of our food being dangerous and unregulated, but as a person who puts cilantro and jalapenos in everything, especially when it's still summer food time, I am suffering. Idk what to cook anymore I'm gonna starve

This generation of homeschooled, Chat GPT-raised, unvaccinated children who don’t know how to finish a book or make a phone call…best of luck to us all, folks.
US child vaccination rates have plunged since before the pandemic, with kindergarten classrooms in more than 70% of counties now lacking herd immunity against measles.

People are SUFFERING. We have to stop acting like everything is okay. It’s not okay. The conditions under which we ALL are living are killing us.

Fallout 4. Was so mindnumbingly bored an hour in, gave up, and haven’t tried any other Fallout games so far.
No hate, no dogpiling, just curious.

For me, it's Skyrim. Don't know why, considering it should be exactly my kind of game, but it just didn't click for me.

So glad people are finally talking about how weird the premise of that sex purge movie is because I’ve been seeing trailers for it at AMC for MONTHS, feeling like I’m losing my mind, but nobody ever seemed to know what I was ranting about
