Minne Sorta Nice
There is a section of my commute where the time of day and the angle of the road line up in a way that makes it feel like the road is leading me directly into the sun. It’s not exactly being yeeted into it, but it’s close. I haven’t decided if it’s terrible or if I love it.

Megyn Kelly is a textbook case of caring about money and attention over anything else. What a vile excuse of a human being.

“Perhaps you should have looked at it more carefully” is Minnesotan for “you’re a repugnant, incompetent idiot but thank you for displaying it in front of god and everyone”.

Happy Homecoming week! We sat on our porch and watched them work. I handed out snacks. Grateful to not have our patio furniture relocated or random curbside treasures dropped off.

The inflection on the last word of this clip is the most Minnesota sound I’ve ever heard.

Kacey Musgraves concert tonight. We got to our section (213) and I showed the usher our tickets. He digs into his pocket and pulls out three paper tickets. We got comped and moved to row E of 113. 😳 I don’t know why or how but I’m not complaining. View of the stage is pretty impressive. 🤠

Perfect summation of how I’m currently feeling.
I am so bone tired of this horrible hell-chasm in which we live every day.
Andrew Wakefield was stripped of his medical license over a fraudulent, now-retracted study that falsely claimed a link between autism and the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine.

L1 is one of just four guys on his football team wearing a Q collar this year. Two of the guys have had multiple concussions and the third’s mom is a doctor. I’m grateful he was willing to take our suggestion seriously and be proactive about his physical wellbeing.

Went out with the other senior football parents after our first game (big W!) of the season. It almost feels like being a HS senior myself but with adult money and responsibilities.

L2 and I get to see Kacey Musgraves in a few weeks and I don’t know if I’m hoping she’ll keep doing Dolly tributes or if I’m hoping she won’t because I’m not sure I’m up for it emotionally.

Second week of school and classes are canceled today due to a power outage. It’s sad that my first thought when we got the message late last night was Canada flipped the switch.

Actual cause is an issue with our local hydroelectric dam. We’re too far out of town to be impacted at home.

We got L1’s senior photos back today and 🥺.

I think the thing that’s sticking with me about Dolly is that she did all that good-in big and small ways-and proved it wasn’t hard. It wasn’t a sacrifice. It didn’t require fanfare. It was simply the right thing to do, so she did it.

I’m so sad about Dolly. I’ve loved her since I was 4 years old and thought she was married to Kenny Rogers because they sang my favorite song together.

There will never be anyone like her. An incandescent original.

Our district changed the school calendar this year and after decades of not starting classes until after Labor Day, this year we started two weeks before. It feels very strange to start back on a Monday in August.

Equally disconcerting is having a high school freshman and a senior. 🥺

I saw a comment on a video this morning seriously claiming elephants are not real. The number of people agreeing with said comment is why we can’t have nice things.

I am not a conspiracy theorist, but I am also not 100% convinced that Bessent isn’t a very sophisticated animatronic interpretation of a human being. He doesn’t move or speak like a real person.
It's a real mystery
Bessent: "We've got a spike in oil prices today that I don't really understand"

Lots of discourse today about who will get appointed to the senate if Amy wins in November. My mind keeps going to Melissa Hortman and how she would have been a solid choice.

I’ve been done with the high road for a long time. Throwing opponents off by matching their energy is better. More of this, please.
I'm sorry I was not familiar with your game.jpg

I am really looking forward to voting for Peggy Flanagan again in November.

If that’s true, why haven’t Minnesotans elected a Republican to a state-wide office in nearly 20 years? Population matters, Tom.
Tom Emmer: "Minnesota doesn't necessarily lean Democrat. In fact, if you look at the 2024 presidential heat map, it is overwhelmingly red. There is a blue dot essentially in the Twin Cities."

I will never understand why people with money and influence choose to direct their resources to insane science fiction projects rather than fixing actual existing problems or making the lived experience on our current planet better.

As someone who has to complete regular trainings on how to recognize money laundering and other financial crimes (despite not being in a customer facing role), this is fascinating to me. I would love to see their findings.
So now the next step is to find out what Capital One's months-long anti-money laundering review by professionals with decades of law enforcement experience discovered about Trump's 300+ accounts...
Phang: "Capital One said, 'We don't want the business anymore of the 45th president of the United States, his businesses, his failed sons, and his revocable trust.' So you can imagine -- I am just hypothesizing... but it suggests whatever Capital One uncovered was pretty bad. Makes you wonder..."
