Responses to today’s developments validate that Cope supporters by and large have no respect or trust for OneCity so no “people’s primary” was ever going to work.
My favourite part is being right that it wouldn’t work, cynics union undefeated.
Cope has done very well to reboot itself but they’re now too high on that momentum. Too much of their base was never going to accept alignment with OneCity so the process was doomed from the start.

Turns out people are a lot more fond of European-style mid-rises when they’re opposing high-rises — than when it’s actually time to broadly legalize mid-rises.
For as long as I’ve been a reporter in this city the complaint has been that we build too many giant luxury condos in a few places and not enough medium density housing across neighbourhoods.
But this week reaffirmed why that approach is so baked into the DNA and political culture of Vancouver.

Grab bag of thoughts re: the Villages
I think the last few years have shown us that the wave of support for more housing was... not illusionary exactly, but people don't feel strongly enough about it to counteract very concrete+organized NIMBY opposition. Grim.

World Cup has had a lot of discourse around "this hype in North America for soccer is great but MLS sucks". Let it be clear that no one knows MLS sucks more than MLS team fans. But we wouldn't keep going if we didn't find joy in it. We're still at a high point for NA soccer.

This is my review of the McDonald's LTO item "Creamy Parmesan & Bacon QPC". I'm a man of simple tastes and ordinarily wouldn't pay $1.50 extra for bacon and a sauce. But it felt like a "treat yo self day" so it hit just right. Cassier McDonalds has the best record of not disappointing me.
