Don’t cheer so soon. I live in the same area as Hussein. Last week, I was in an independent cafe when a lady complained that she had ordered a coffee but been served a bowl of soup. This officer was present but refused to intervene, because he said he was following orders to commit white genocide.
Was just in my local bookshop, when I saw someone ask in hushed tones if they had any “Sally Rooney” left. Thankfully before the bookseller could pass them a copy of Intermezzo, this brave police officer (who was reading bell hooks) jumped up and arrested them. Thank you, officer.

The only thing you need to know about the Neera Tanden/Sam Seder debate is Neera spent the first 20 minutes avoiding defining ‘leftist’ vs. ‘liberals’, and then an hour later when Sam made an offhand remark about leftists and liberals she immediately pulled him up on it and said words mean things.

I know a lot of people won't want to hear this but Ilhan Omar withholding support for Biden and Kamala has a clear correlation to her potential deportation

Here's video from a 2023 Nature paper showing their principal finding: octopus sleep is divided into slow-wave brain activity interrupted about every hour with 60 seconds of their equivalent of rapid eye movement (REM).

We think they're dreaming very much like we dream.

Obsessed with Damascus goats lately. They look like they were created by H. R. Giger. They both looks and sound stupid as hell. An utter catastrophe of an animal. I love them.

I love how it lets out that agonising yelp that sounds almost human and then just settles its face and swallows like an old man wondering what’s on TV. You can’t teach comedic timing like that.
You'd be forgiven for thinking this is some sort of cry of existential agony but nah they're just like that and they're having the time of their lives

I was a kid at the turn of the millennium when MiniDiscs briefly blew up. One of my friend's mums was an evangelist; raved about them. Transferred her entire music collection from CD to MiniDisc then gave the CDs to a charity shop. A few months later, the iPod came out. That's how I feel about this.
Some guy in Charleston, SC started an AI consultancy firm for small businesses where he just asks ChatGPT. Using a blueberry farm as an example he asked for outside risks. It said heavy rain, heatwaves and rising fuel costs. He asked how to hedge against this. It said to place bets on Kalshi.

"I'm President of one of the largest liberal think tanks in D.C., worked with numerous presidents and Hillary called when I gave birth to my child—not a presidential candidate at the time, just a senator, tyvm—but I don't like the term 'establishment' because it makes me feel icky."

Instructive.
"You're not the 'Establishment'? If you're not 'Establishment,' who is?"

A relatively light-hearted exchange/preview from my 'Head to Head' interview with CAP President & ex-Hillary adviser @neeratanden.bsky.social at Georgetown last week, airs tonight at 10pm ET.

Where on earth are White British people getting the idea that they can refuse to be treated by medical professionals of a different race, in a country where a sitting MP openly says, "We should deny trans people normal, expedient healthcare because my mother is a bigot." It must be the Russians.
What a heartless, cruel thing for an elected representative to say.

Personally, I think what really threatens American Jews is insisting our safety is dependent on denying what the whole world sees, that the Israeli gov committed war crimes against Palestinian civilians. Force people to think protecting Jews means denying reality, and they will stop caring about us.

the big thing the rise of LLMs has revealed to me is that there is a not insignificant chunk of the population that considers cognition itself to be a frustrating and unnecessary burden

Strikes me that when the hacks all went to Reform conferences and declared it very professional and detoxified, either the UK’s largest grouping of pub uncles somehow maintained best behaviour for a whole weekend, or the UK’s finest political journalists just weren’t very observant
“We're not f****** stupid enough to p*** off the entire woke south or centrist south really of the country,”

“You need to seem palatable to everyone...We just need to get f****** elected, that’s all that really matters. We won't necessarily say what we are doing, part of the point is to not [say].”
