We’ve been bullshitted for years that AI will make scientific breakthroughs and solve all sorts of problems. So far all it’s produced is problems we all have to deal with and pay for. Fuck these tech bros and fuck their chat bots and their fucking lies. Sam Altman should be in prison.

This would be something to worry about if AI ever produced anything novel rather than stealing shit and claiming it invented it.

That millenium prize math problem AI “solved” recently? Pinched from a human mathematician who wrote it into an AI chat bot.
What will happen if they manage to solve discrete log in polynomial time? It would be doomsday for digital security everywhere.

We'd probably find out when major institutions start pushing emergency updates to post quantum encryption.

In the meantime, it would be catastrophic.

You guys fantasize, a lot, about not having to pay for labor or be responsible for treating the labor source with dignity.

So much of GenAI discourse is about a desire for ethical enslavement.

And that does not exist.

This piece absolutely nails it and is a must read. This paragraph brought me to a standstill because it's also how we've gone from broad acceptance of trans people to journalists including comment from "gender criticals" fighting for "common sense" on every trans story.

consistently frustrated by progressive spaces heeding the liberal urge against conflict and giving way to the far right

i think the left should be reflecting a fair bit more about where they won't cede ground, or acquiesce, rather than being forced into a final stand when most everything is gone

asking a question like this during election polling should have you struck from the pages of any serious media outlet - unfortunately NZ doesn't have any of those in mainstream any more

Curia can absolutely not be trusted to avoid push-polling - thereby changing decisions - or to even be truthful
New Curia poll which appears to have asked which party you trust not to raise taxes. I wonder why they resigned from the Research Association of NZ. It's more in line with Roy Morgan than other polls as well. Interesting.

And doing this at a time when we have weekly reports of people applying for hundreds of jobs without getting anywhere. No jobs to go to and no support when the jobs aren't there. No wonder so many people are terrified of losing their jobs right now. And absolute misery for those who already have.
The headline buries the lede:

❌️ Cutting benefit rates after 2yrs

❌️ Incr stand down to 26wks (up from 13wks)

❌️ Incr minimum residence period to qualify benefits from 2yrs to 5yrs

These are awful, horrifying policies that will drive povery and misery
