Listen, I'm not an absolutist about AI at all. But if you're going to insist I can't know what's going on in there and maybe there's a real boy inside, then you might as well get a head start and block me now.
Well, she can still afford them thanks to all the bribes.

BAIER: The president says 'SI.' Are you into SI or AI?

BEZOS: I do like SI, because 'artificial' is not a very flattering thing. Like, nobody wants an artificial sweetener, artificial flavoring.

To put this another way, all Johnson can do is create a pretend shadow House. The Democrats will be more than willing to go alone on this.
If Democrats win, johnson will not be speaker at the point where they are swearing in the new Congress. They are sworn in by the speaker elect, who is chosen by the member elects
Sen. Thom Tillis says he expects there will be pressure on Mike Johnson to not seat the new Congress if Democrats win

A state everyone associates with first rate education.
The state of Alabama imposed a state law that requires pubic schools and universities to use the term “Gulf of America.” And obvious and flagrant authoritarian move and textbook example of what Barrett Taylor and I call postliberal governance.

Alabama’s New “Gulf of America” Mandate Impacts Colleges
Republican lawmakers say faculty can only call it the Gulf of Mexico for “historical purposes” in academic courses. Journalists are constrained by the restriction, too.

One thing social media accomplished by connecting all of humanity was to shine a light in how depressing much of humanity turned out to be.
I bet they aren't removing the comments I saw yesterday that dox the Cornell victim. I think there were more comments saying they were going to report the doxers, but there were enough that doxed her and some were even from women. 😢😡
It's crazy because when I report actual violent language, racist statements, health misinformation, and worse, I almost always get a notification that they did not remove the post.

This is why I am now blocking the "inside AI is a real boy" chuds on sight. You are not edgy, or tech enlightened. You have simply surrendered your humanity to an algorithm that tells you comforting things.

Actually didn't know that he'd been cosplaying here as humble Maine fishing village guy. That Times piece might lead to more protesters.
John Roberts' friend and defender is quoted in the piece, saying they shouldn't be shaming Roberts for the wreckage and ruin he's brought to this country because of "civility."

The bullies always cry "civility" when the victims push back in the slightest.

Basically my exact fear based on observing the "leadership" of people like Jeffries and Schumer. It will be on us to demand more of our leaders and where possible without risking majorities or the long view, reject Democrats whose best offer is a return to where we were in 2024.
I love the optimism about Dems winning in November - I share it! And: I'm a tiny bit nervous that winning will free folks of the urgency to fix deeper structural problems in our party that will fuck us in the long-haul if we don't grapple with them.

I could be wrong, but I think a campaign ad paid for with taxpayer money when people are struggling on the eve of an election is the kind of thing that might backfire.

Weird OCI event at a hotel where some interviews had one person sitting on a bed. I was the first of the day and he thought I was room service with the coffee. Spent the first half of our interview time calling about the coffee.
My favorite interview was the [reputable school of law]’s hotel room where one committee member walked into it seven minutes after it began from the bathroom and asks, “I don’t think you ever gave us your CV.”

The owner of a top BBQ joint in Texas decided to cut brisket, the top-selling item, from the menu rather than institute a $10 markup for customers.

The decision was fueled not just by the skyrocketing price of brisket but by inflation.

If these "refugees" become your neighbors, know also that you have shitty racist neighbors and you do not owe them courtesy of decent immigrants.
Tough competition of course, but the Trump admin deciding that white South Africans are the only group of people on earth currently worthy of refugee status has to be the most overtly racist thing any administration has done in decades
Hi folks. If you saw this, you know the administration plans to only accept white South Africans next year. Tomorrow is Congress's formal say before the determination is signed. Please check this brief thread on why I'd like you to speak out for the Afghan people still in limbo...

The funny thing is that the Dems nominated an AIPAC AI apologist stooge against Lawler, and I can't think of a better example than this to show how instantly stupid that was.
Deleted this -- forgot that Jared Golden is retiring and is pulling this shit because he can't be punished.

I hope Maine Democrats remember: fuck this guy.

I mean, people bomb schools and innocent mariners too. (Not a defense of AI military applications, just a comment on the human condition of the species that created AI in its image.)
This is a really important story.

You know how over reliance on AI makes you lazy and stupid? This shows how that’s happening within the military — a military, it cannot be pointed out often enough, that’s growing ever more reliant on AI. The children of Shajarah Tayyebah Elementary paid the price
