I did a thing :D
First chapter of my PhD out now! 🌱 (first paper ever 🥳)
Traits are historically hypothesized to age synchronously, but it is no longer the case. We quantified asynchronous ageing in Seychelles warblers and reviewed potential reasons for why this may be.
Do all traits age together? A long-term study of wild Seychelles warblers shows ageing is surprisingly asynchronous, with some traits senescing while others remain unchanged. doi.org/10.1093/evle...

Gut Microbiome Communities Vary Across Translocated Populations of the Seychelles Warbler
Conservation translocations are an increasingly common tool used to help combat species extinction but their success is dependent on a wide range of abiotic and biotic factors. To date, the potential...

Social Structure and Interactions Differentially Shape Aerotolerant and Anaerobic Gut Microbiomes in a Cooperative Breeding Species
Social transmission of microbes has profound impacts on disease epidemiology and host health. However, how social factors influence gut microbiome (GM) transmission in wild populations is not well un...

🧵 New paper!

How does the immune system shape the gut microbiome in wild animals?

We studied the Seychelles warbler using shotgun metagenomics to test how variation in MHC genes (key immune genes) influences both the taxonomy and function of gut microbes.
