Writing a hybrid memoir + narrative science nonfiction book about the statistical paradox of competing risks and how it applies to my near-death. Posts are my own thoughts. This is a personal account. MEDIO·TUTISSIMUS·IBIS CUSTOS·VIAE·MEDIAE
Would be higher if creators (especially one of them) were better people.

Glad to see @aeon.co starting to cover stuff aside from the “is AI conscious” debate finally.

As an old I am just going to have to come to terms with the fact that the annoying face in the mobile camera podcast style of public communication is here to stay.

Just a reminder, but not a friendly one, that Halloween is at the END of the month.

I’d really like to listen to Still Counting but the last episode on AI was so bad and annoying to listen to that I just can’t risk it at this point.

Private universities having real police powere has always been a terrible idea, as student activists all understood when these departments where formed. Cornell is putting on a malfeasance clinic that might just help drive this point home
NYT today: victim "spoke for hours to a Cornell police investigator and an investigator from Cornell’s Title IX office." Cornell damage control from the beginning. You might improve university practices here, but my conclusion is the university has no good role to play in a criminal rape case.

Cauliflower and leeks baked in heavy cream and topped with cheese should not taste this good.

BUT IT DOES.

Week 2 of the progressive workout where last year before the temporary death I would be doing heavy Cossack squats, one legged squats, and skin the cats, but am now starting from like ground zero.

My homie Zack and his colleagues are quietly revolutionizing the demography of the houseless. The magic of respondent-driven sampling and graph theory at work. Well, I guess it's not magic, but it's rad.
We are excited to share the first-ever LA Youth Count report! youthcount.org/2026-report -- LA became one of first communities to adopt cutting-edge respondent-driven sampling methods to estimate the prevalence of unsheltered young people and better understand their experiences.

this really is impeachable for any president, but really grotesque coming from a regime that cut life-saving development aid because they said it was not efficient
Here's a $20 million order, paid for by CBP's Office of Public Affairs, awarded to LMD Agency for a national media campaign starting on Sept. 20.

The first pro-Trump ad aired on Sept. 23.

Wow
My god they are stupid.
A phenomenal moment in the Senate.

Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., claims he has evidence Jack Smith went to a HAWKS game in Atlanta.

Smith denies it.

Schmitt declares he has busted Jack Smith for perjury.

Smith, vexed, says he went to HAWKEYES game in Maryland.
