It’s like being retraumatized each time. Each time you have to go back to a place that’s really awful. And you never ever get to live a life of feeling complete and utter safety again. The cruelty in SA is that no matter what happens you have to carry that for the rest of your life. And every year there’s more big news stories about someone’s trauma and then everyone talks about their trauma and then you have to reface your own. But life doesn’t stop to process it all.
