They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but what about the beauty of the eye itself? Vertebrate eyes show strong conservatism, but amphibians have additional structures in their irises that have never been fully described! Why has no one been LOOKING (😜) at these structures?

I do want to point out: from all we know, these papers (and the people behind them) agree on most relevant points. What makes this topic so exhausting are not different views on noisy data but needless personal attacks fragmenting an already tiny field. Very tired and glad to move on from this ...

We used micro-CT scanning to examine the tessellated calcified cartilage in the jaws of 10 young chondrichthyans in 3D. We found some surprises—like chunky trabeculae in a baby nurse shark!

I was lucky enough to see endangered turtles hatch from their eggs and make their trip to the sea yesterday. The large swarm of humans scared off any potential predators. It wasn’t nearly as dramatic as in the documentaries
