Devonian period. Good choice.

Anglicans are kind of like one of those types of lizard that's indistinguishable from a different type but their phylogenic tree diverged during the Devonian period or sth

Blastoids are extinct echinoderms, related to starfish, sand dollars and crinoids. They have long stems and delicate hair-like brachioles to grab food that are rarely preserved in the fossil record.

This Hyperoblastus is one of the smallest I've found in the Devonian Silica Shale.

This is my best New York Eldredgeops from the Devonian Windom Shale. It's enrolled, which is a defensive position. The soft tissue legs and antenna could hide inside the hard shell if it was attacked or buried in a storm event, similar to a modern day pillbug or roly-poly.

I am thoroughly disappointed by this. It is ironic, given that 1) Cleveland Museum is known for its history of high-quality, influential placoderm fish research and 2) SVP are the very organisation who published my paper on placoderm vertebrae back in 2020.

—an observation not lost on a young English historian, a rural Devonian who flew from the hills, moors and beaches of his island home to complete a doctorate in Florence, and is now writing to you from a Tokyo kissaten at the edge of the Pacific".

#FossilFriday here is Prototaxites a genus of large Macroscopic eukaryote from the Late Silurian to Devonian periods. While historically regarded as a type of fungi recent research potentially suggests that Prototaxites may represent an entirely distinct eukaryotic lineage altogether
