I just received a package, with a handwritten letter, from an excellent young collector containing a bunch of eurypterid specimens. It's actually made me feel like a researcher, and I've decided I'm going to write a physical letter in response. We lose so much intimacy with messages and email.

In the move I appear to have not realised I was on a paper that came out last month! Some small notes on a Chinese eurypterid

New insights on the morphology and phylogeny of the Chinese dolichopterid eurypterid Malongia (Eurypterida, Dolichopteridae)

Sharing one of my favourite phenomena for #FossilFriday: when a drill core bullseyes a fossil! This one, from the Silurian of Estonia, has caught some exceptionally preserved body segments of a pterygotid eurypterid. ⚒️🧪

Here's one that's probably not been mentioned: stuffed animals, both variety and quality. You couldn't get a giant eurypterid plushie in the 80s. A lot of brands, like Pokemon and Ikea, are just way softer and have better quality control.

Yup! It is. The good and only, chelicerata arachnid eurypterid Jesus itself. Even managed to make him a good scar (another for the collection as Nigel proudly said)

The odds that a car has both circus aerial equipment and a giant eurypterid plush are low...but non-zero #ithaca @prinstitution.bsky.social

We own every plushy PRI has ever made, including the giant eurypterid and the grey trilobites that everyone wants.

love my giant eurypterid plush 🥰

Wait who stole my car and drove it to Ithaca? (kidding, kidding, but as a professional aerialist of 20+ years and paleontologist who most definitely owns a giant eurypterid plush, the odds are actually quite high)

That's awesome!

My teen has been doing it for a few years, mostly silks. They opened for a cirque us performance yesterday with one of their friends.

(The eurypterid is a holdover because I brought it to class and I don't have a permanent office on campus).

I had no idea my two most favorite extinct prehistoric marine critters were in Final Fantasy XIV until I signed up for @fisherfruity.bsky.social's aquarium meet-up, but now I know and am much happier for it.

Thank you again Dr Brendan @fossilsndcoffee.bsky.social ! Surgery went well yesterday and the abdominal gas has finally left so I can be upright with my new bestie! Cancer is very lonely, you really made my day with this guy, thank you so, so, so much!

Wanna hear a random act of kindness? A few weeks ago, @fossilsndcoffee.bsky.social shared this huge Eurypterid body pillow from the Paleontological Research Institute. I joked "who wants to buy this for me", and Dr Anderson did! my breast cancer has spread, so this is perfect for surgical recovery!

Here is the Eurypterid, I named him MOAB, covered in some of my Cambrian plushies.

Who is your favorite paleozic creature? It can be from any period. Moab is from the Silurian period. Most of my faves are Cambrian, and at the top is anomalocaris and always has been and always will be🥰
