Is “pragmatic” the new, “grown up” word? Andy, there’s nothing “pragmatic” about drilling for more oil & gas - to even consider it with the planet literally on fire is total madness. How many times must we say it will do nothing for energy bills or security? It would be an act of utter recklessness

Such events are now a common feature of summer and it is only a matter of time before lives are lost

Meanwhile @andyburnham.bsky.social reportedly plans to allow more oil and gas to be sucked out of the North Sea

Hard to think of a more deeply damaging start to Burnham’s premiership than giving green light to new oil & gas in N. Sea, if true. It won’t lower bills or lead to greater energy security but will drive an even hotter planet. What a terrible signal to give to rest of the world #ClimateVandalism

Carbon Dioxide, Methane, F-Gases?

100 years? 20 years?

Wow, greenhouse gas emissions are hard to understand sometimes.

That's why we built the "Carbon in Context" website that helps navigate these confusing terms.

Do you want to see the "big picture" on climate change?

Here it is.

Emissions are on the left, and include CO2, CH4, N2O, and f-gases. Natural CO2 sinks (from healthy forests & oceans) are on the right. And carbon removal, what little there is, is on the right, too. All expressed as GWP100.

Sustaining food, health, governance and other human systems will be much, much more difficult between 1.5°C and 2.0°C than now. Systems will become dysfunctional and approach or cross interacting critical thresholds, possibly resulting in uncontrollable cascading consequences.
Assuming accelerating warming since 1980, the planet will cross 2.0°C sometime around 2036-2037.

As for where we are right now with respect to 1.5°C, check your rear-view mirror.
