Why is this even controversial?
This ridiculous sentence sends out a clear message to the fash that pogroms are a minor offence.
This was a pogrom attack. The South East Antrim UDA, a proscribed terror group were linked to it - yet this man is prosecuted for burglary and damage? This is why pogroms keep happening - because the state downplays loyalist terror.
A 34 year old was just handed a sentence of 4 years (2 custodial, 2 on licence) for breaking into a house during the Ballymena pogroms in 2025. Causing damage to the house, the family hid in the attic in fear for over 5 hours. He was charged with burglary with the intent to cause criminal damage

Gardaí believe Michael Healy Rae was attacked by a single assailant, at a junction in the Coombe at around 4pm as he travelled from Leinster House to Kerry. He was escorted from his by Gardaí to Kevin St station and onward to St Vincent’s University Hospital for treatment. Witness appeal issued.
