Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of.

What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

This thought is really nagging at me. A generation or more brought up to be so alienated from the moral lives of their communities and nations that all that's left is pictures on the screen, which ones get popular, which creators get wealthy and famous.
It's a dark and dystopian line of thought - the reduction of our moral weight in the universe to a balance sheet showing which content we've contributed view counts to

Gotta say, it's pretty discouraging to see how quickly the calls for "forgiveness" and questions about "well does it really mean someone is bad FOREVER" start in

this thread is dead-on: "join the trades" is bait. the goal is for white collar jobs to go to dumb and lazy failchild morons instead of someone worthier
I was raised by a nurse with an associates degree and a steel mill electrician. I am not denigrating the value and dignity of blue collar work when I ask how many elite national media staffers are raising future bricklayers themselves.

In 2003, the U.S. military bombed Iraq’s national seed bank in Abu Ghraib, effectively eliminating hundreds of varieties of indigenous seeds adapted to growing in the drought-prone desert climate. A year later, U.S. law prohibited Iraqi farmers from seed saving. (First published in 2025 by Prism)

Economist analysis of more than 3,000 US counties finds that in reliably GOP counties, annual deaths now exceed births by 0.4 per 1k residents, while in reliably Democratic counties, births exceed deaths by 2.8 per 1k. Population growth in the GOP counties is largely driven by internal migration.
In MAGA-land people are dying faster than they are being born
Our analysis suggests Trump country is only growing because of migration
