I've made something brilliant.

Recently, I was working on a literature review of sorts and an old work showed me how I could make the most human of ai models. So I did. It requires no ai data centers, it cannot halucinate.

Some time back I advised to dodge the big G, but after thinking on it more and having a recent meetup with former colleagues, I'd like to temper that advice.

Sadly, I've read it. I would not recommend it, on a great many levels.
Also, these people’s central source text, their Bible, is a Harry Potter fanfic, and I am not kidding. These dorkass weirdos are unthinkably wealthy and powerful now.

Trump has only declared victory in the Iran war once this month. Concerning.

If a generative AI CEO is telling you something, take it with a grain of salt the size of an iceberg. So if they want regulation now, it is more likely something to do with finances than an immediate existential threat. These dipshits do not care about existential threats other than going bankrupt.

Whenever you feel tempted to pick a fight with your (broadly speaking) fellow travelers on here, hop over to Twitter and read what the right's "thinkers" are saying. If you still want to have the fight after that, go for it, but just remember what you're actually fighting against.
I’m glad we don’t have a large contingent of right wing chuds here but it does mean we spend an awful lot of time yelling at each other

“Stopping a battle is much harder than starting it. Starting it only requires you to shout ‘Attack!’ but when you want to stop it, everyone is busy.”
Discworld QOTD, from Thief of Time

'Every society needs a cry like that, but only in a very few do they come out with the complete, unvarnished version, which is “Remember-The-Atrocity-Committed-Against-Us-Last-Time-That-Will-Excuse-The-Atrocity-That-We’re-About-To-Commit-Today!"'
Discworld QOTD, from The Light Fantastic

“Unseen University had never admitted women, muttering something about problems with the plumbing, but the real reason was an unspoken dread that if women were allowed to mess around with magic they would probably be embarrassingly good at it…”

this is fascinating and sort of tracks with what I expected here - basically, if you believe in astrology (or at least pay regular attention to horoscopes), it seems like you start to mold your personality to those horoscopes

if you don’t, there’s no correlation
We cross-referenced the psychometric personality data of ~ 1 million people with their zodiac astrological signs:

1) There is a small but statistically significant effect of zodiac sign on personality controlling for demographic and attitudinal variables

I believe him.

If Republicans win, Trump will then takes $5,000 of taxpayer money per American citizen ($5,000 x 349,458,804 Americans = $1,747,294,020,000) and put it in a "Trump dividend fund" that he'll say is used on behalf of Americans...

...but is privately owned by him.

It's also a scandal that major news media aren't telling you that, loudly and often.

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.
