Discoveries can hide in plain sight. #HHMIInvestigator Steven Henikoff's lab found a surprise when revisiting their old data: a region of ribosomal DNA producing microRNAs that can be associated with cancer, revealing a new role for part of the genome overlooked for decades: bit.ly/3RQwTmy.

Many congrats to the amazing @jeremyahollis.bsky.social and the one-and-only @harmitmalik.bsky.social So much fun to be part of this collaboration!!! Worms, fish, and many other metazoan species come together to build this beautiful story!!! 🐛🐟🐀
Jeremy Hollis’ detective story on centromeric histone chaperones (HJURP/Cal1) is now published after peer review with a few extra goodies.

It’s been a while since I mentioned how much I appreciate the worm community! Thank you all for replying to my message and for being so generous and eager to help! I appreciate you all!
Hey C. elegans friends! What's your preferred method for cell-specific knockout or knockdown? Would love any paper recommendations too! Thank you!!!

Progress in cancer research has been one of the incredible areas of biomedical advancement over the past two decades. Many cancers which were absolute death sentences just a few years ago are now chronic, managed conditions.

And this was only possible through NIH/NCI/NIAID research/funding.
"We declared a War On Cancer in the 1970s and we have not made significant progress on treating cancer despite ever-increasing funding. It's a welfare program for academic labs"

Bro what the FUCK are you talking about. The survival statistics do not bear this out even at first glance

Truly honored to be part of this inspiring story, driven by the super talented student @jeremyahollis.bsky.social and made possible through the collaboration of four different labs at @basicsci.fredhutch.org. Science at its best!!!
We have some genetic sleuth work to share with you! What started as a rotation project turned into nothing short of an amazing collaboration between 4 labs in the zoo that is @basicsci.fredhutch.org. We found an essential histone chaperone long thought to be missing in most animals 🕵️‍♂️

While Trump “floods the zone,” we must stay focused.

NO to oligarchy, tax breaks for the rich and cuts to working class programs. NO to authoritarianism and unlimited power for one man.

YES to growing the union movement and raising wages. YES to health care as a human right.
