I will never understand playing for a tie other than like inside 10 seconds type scenario. The amount of times a tie will help you for playoffs is negligible.

The problem with kicking on 4-8 is that you concede any chance to win the game. You are never getting that ball back even *if* you stop Kansas City from getting the 2 first downs they needed to get in FG range. The only good outcome for you is a tie.
