The Library is devastated to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton, a music legend and titan of children's literacy. Her Imagination Library program has earned multiple Library Literacy Awards and, in 2018, she visited us to donate its 100 millionth book to our collection and host a story time. 🦋❤️

In 2021, Kevin Faccenda started walking the University of Hawai'i campus, collecting every grass species he could find. Right outside the botany building, he found one that had never been recorded in Hawai'i. He's been working on grass taxonomy ever since.

When we see fellow mammals submerged, we imagine our lifestyle of continuous breathing.

But pinnipeds live in a world where breathing is a task to be completed as needed, like we view visiting the bathroom, or eating a snack when hungry.
