"JK Rowling is already a billionaire and everyone already knows about Harry Potter, what's the point of boycotting?"

Nobody thinks boycotting will bankrupt her. We know she's gonna die rich. We're just asking you to show a shred of solidarity with trans folk. Absolute low bar bare minimum shit.

QT if you've ever had a piece stolen by the Times

It's a long, long list, I bet

The most galling part of this account is the Times editor refusing to acknowledge the reporting they regurgitated, but offering a pity link
WELL. If you wondered why I had zero things to say about the NYT piece on the HR AI fic situation last month...I had zero things to say publicly then. 🥲 Thank you to everyone who discussed this situation with me and read a draft of this. I tried my best to illustrate these longstanding dynamics:

Does your library include access to the Kanopy streaming service? Lucky you! That means you get to watch "Everyone is Lying to You for Money" for free

It's a very good, entertaining doc about the crypto grift. It includes an interview with Sam Bankman-Fried around the time FTX was collapsing […]

Not to insomnia-weigh-in on the concept of restorative justice, but I thought long and hard ten years ago about what I would say if someone asked what Alex Kozinski could do by way of restorative justice.

(Nobody ever asked.)

Worldcon San Antonio 2013: I am on the floor, on a panel about poetry and fiction, unable to join my fellow panelists up on stage, because I am using a wheelchair, and the stage does not have a ram…

Earlier this week, I agreed to interviews with two USA Today journalists. They wrote fantastic articles about the Cornell case that I'm proud to have been a part of.

What I did not know is that their employer considers interviews to proprietary and opens up recordings to be used by any journalist.

Neiman Marcus closed its downtown Dallas flagship on Wednesday. The store played a notable role in the history of desegregation in Dallas.

Previously, Black shoppers across the US could enter department stores, but they weren't allowed to try on clothes without adhering to certain conditions. 🧵

THIS IS THE CURRENT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT LSU
One last thing: the domestic violence confession that Ausberry sat on and did not report was about an LSU athlete. The football player had harmed an LSU athlete. And now Ausberry is interim AD and overseeing all of athletics and athletes. Ok.

Just a reminder that people don’t always realize they were raped in the immediate aftermath. It can take hours, days, months, and even years to realize you were raped, and it doesn’t make it any less true. There are many kinds of responses, including fawning and trying to appease your rapist
