The humanities have been calling out genAI theft since the jump, while STEM has rallied around “discovery potential”.

I am *ONCE AGAIN* reminding EVERYONE that science is not the sacred cow, STEM isn’t the exception. They are going to steal our IP, too. We aren’t special.

Thomas Rose, a 37-year-old assistant professor at MIT and an expert in the archaeometallurgy of copper, has died after being hit by a driver while riding his bike at the intersection of Memorial Drive and Massachusetts Ave.

I understand that funding bodies want to go all in on AI as the shiny new innovation thing. But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.

Study: US emergency departments (EDs) are seeing fewer C difficile cases.

The overall incidence of Clostridioides difficile infections among ED patients declined from 2014 to 2024, although rates in young adults increased.

Sean Eddy's work has probably added billions to the American economy and improved nearly every life through the work it enabled. To say his work is of no value is utter madness.
This is awful to hear, describing how Sean Eddy (HMMER, infernal, pfam, rfam) has been defunded. The letter said his work

"had been determined to be of absolutely no value to the US taxpayer, and therefore it was being specifically terminated,"
