Just here working at the posting factory. Meeting my 30% CanCon quota. A mix of being angry at the current state of affairs, yelling at the NDP, transit, urbanism, design and shitposting.

One thing I’ve noticed about the YIMBY/pro-housing movement is how few trades people, contractors, etc (the people who actually physically build the homes) are involved in it. And I think that is a huge failing for a couple of reasons.

One, they actually understand construction…

Given that there is a CDN2 billion investment (basically an emergency fund) going to the Ontario auto sector I think it’s safe to say this industry is fucked. Not just a little bit. A lot. I’m getting the sense it’s going to get really bad really fast for Ontario.
October 22, 2026 at 12:46 AM
I’m only partly joking when I say YIMBYs need to to start with the most radical proposition and go from there. Pick a 60s suburb, like Etobicoke (for no reason…) and say you want to level *all* of the homes Robert Moses style and make it half Hong Kong, half Tokyo. Send them into a fucking panic…
The victory condition of NIMBYs is "literally nothing" and there's no concession anyone can offer besides that that will ever make them happy.

I remember when you could go 5 or 6 months without anything related to Canada appearing in the Bluesky trending timeline. Now it happens all the time and it’s always for cursed, stupid, or awful reasons 🙄

I am so very tired.

And what’s worse is there is still at least 27 more months left of this and it’s only going to get worse after the midterms.

*deep sigh*

After doing this exercise I also want to cost out a bog standard four plex (maybe one of the federal designs) and compare the overall cost for building them as infill vs greenfield development because I have a feeling even fourplexes would be more expensive as infill projects.
…if you did this as a subdivision project in the GTA or Metro Van, CDN600-900K (depending on where & how much you can bend current zoning regs, road sizes, etc).

Also surprising (but not really) it’s cheaper to do at scale as greenfield development than infill (be it on an urban or rural plot)
October 21, 2026 at 3:31 PM
So I’ve been doing a design for a compact, 3 bedroom, house (think late 1940s post war housing), with spray foam insulation, and figuring out all the costs.

Material and labour are on average CDN225K (the variance is 200-250K depending on where in Canada you are). Pretty much what I thought…

Alberta migrant groups express alarm over referendum results on immigration reform
Preliminary results show a majority of Albertans back greater control over immigration and restrictions on access to provincially funded social services for non-permanent residents and non-citizens

Well I’m done with Alberta posting. Just want to say to the province, and in particular Smith, the UCP, and the separatists, I hope it was worth it. You just burned through a decade of goodwill from the rest of Canada at a time when we needed you to be an ally, not an enemy.
October 21, 2026 at 1:31 AM
One thing I’ve noticed in all the coverage and interviews today about the Alberta referendum is there’s been a ton of discussion about the need to “bring separatists into the public discourse and listen to them” but not a single “how could those 5 questions impact the lives of immigrants in Alberta”
October 20, 2026 at 11:51 PM
The results of the AB referendum (at least Question 10) have made me wonder if there are actually that many Canadians left on Twitter. We know it was full of pro-independence slop and major accounts were supporting it. But at 24.5% (currently) it seems like propaganda efforts kind of ate shit
October 20, 2026 at 4:33 PM
Anyways, now that Canada has spent the last 3 months throwing money & pipelines at Alberta and playing far too nice with separatist scumbags can we maybe focus on other things? Like the fact that America’s economic warfare is dynamiting Ontario’s economy and we need action on that real fucking quick
October 20, 2026 at 3:10 PM
I’m not claiming the rest of Canada is perfect because it isn’t.

But unlike Quebec who’s harsh anti-immigrant stance is partly masked due to the French language, Alberta doesn’t have that protection.

The legacy and impact of this referendum won’t be that remain won. It’ll be the racism.
I can say that I am utterly devastated to see the results of the “other nine” questions. The scapegoating of newcomers is about to get a lot worse and that is a loss for all Albertans and Canadians.
October 20, 2026 at 1:49 PM
That’s some graphic design right there. Yikes

I am curious to see how the Greens do on housing. More specifically are they going to do Green Party “we don’t believe in housing” NIMBY nonsense or could they actually break that rightfully earned stereotype.

We will soon find out…
GREENS HAVE SWEPT VANCOUVER! 💚🌊

This weekend, Greens made history! Pete Fry was elected Vancouver's first-ever Green mayor, alongside FOUR newly elected Green city councillors: Annette Reilly, Stephanie Smith, Camil Dumont and Bridget Burns.

This is just the beginning.
October 20, 2026 at 1:35 PM
Last Alberta post for a while (I hope…)

I don’t like that most of the other 9 questions are going to pass. I get a bad feeling Smith is going to use that as an opportunity to keep Alberta’s grievance politics alive and that’s not good for anyone

I hope Albertans destroy her career, and fast…
October 20, 2026 at 11:42 AM
I’m all for a full and detailed investigation into foreign intervened into the Alberta separatist movement. We need to know exactly how it impacted this debacle.

But this was still primarily a made in Canada shit show and ultimately we need to look inward at our own failings first and foremost…

October 20, 2026 at 5:18 AM
I wouldn’t be surprised to see turnout hit 85%. And that is great because it just adds another knife into the back of the separatists.
October 20, 2026 at 5:34 AM
This is the right attitude. Even if remain clearly won we need to finish the job and ruin what is the left of the racist, xenophobic, anti-women, white supremacist separatists. Purge Smith and the UCP and make this bullshit as fringe as it was before Smith became a separatist sympathizer
Get absolutely fucked separatists

Glad we can put this in the trash finally
October 20, 2026 at 5:30 AM
It would be nice if remain stayed above 75%. It’s obviously going to win but the more decisive the better
Currently with a million votes in.

76.6% to stay.

23.4% to hold another referendum.
