Do the big brains at NPS want people to drive to see the cherry blossoms? If you leave now, you might make it before peak bloom ends.
NPS tells me, somewhat indirectly, that with cherry blossom season coming it needs to improve mobility for everyone, including drivers. But other say that’s exactly backward: with all the crowds that come for cherry blossoms, more should be done to make walking and cycling safe.

Today is National 311 Day! Thank you to DC 311 for managing everything from #DDOTDC pothole repairs to tree planting, traffic light fixes, and pedestrian signals. We're grateful for the crews keeping DC safe and green. Call 311, text 311, or visit 311.dc.gov!

This should be embarrassing. A totem to DC’s inadequate storm response.
Snow Removal Update: #DDOTDC crews have cleared & made passable 20+ miles of protected bike lanes & trails across the DC as snowcrete & ice cleanup continues, including key connections like the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge.

Thank you for your patience as this work continues citywide.

Today in @wcp.bsky.social’s daily newsletter, all of the politics stories (except those about the Post layoffs) are published by local newsrooms (that’s unusual, usually some are national).

Each of them raises the Needle (an index of DC quality of life) by an unusually large 50 points.

“I’m not selling the car. I’m keeping the chassis but replacing the engine, transmission, wheels, body panels, and interior.”
Q: Do you plan on tearing the Kennedy Center down and how much will all of the renovations cost?

TRUMP: Probably around $200 million. I'm not ripping it down. I'll be using the steel. So we're using the structure. We're using some of the marble.

This is what @ddotdc.bsky.social considers a cleared protected bike lane. It’s blocked by snow where I stood, and halfway down the block, it’s full of snow.

There is no bike lane on this street right now.

What’s happening at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is an absolute disgrace and subversion of civil rights laws.

Its Trump-appointed chair is openly hostile to LGBT people and threw out the agency’s guidance on sexual harassment just so queers could be humiliated at work.
Civil rights laws are meant to protect workers equally. Using the EEOC for a partisan agenda while rolling back established protections undermines both the law and its purpose, all while vulnerable workers pay the price.
