I've never seen crunch result in better work. Often I've seen the opposite, because management was so poor that it resulted in crunch, the work done during crunch ended up being thrown out because it was planned in an impulsive (badly managed) way

I really REALLY need game devs, and especially those who are in higher up positions, indie or otherwise, to clue into the fact that crunching away for weeks or months of a time is neither normal nor something you should wear as a badge of honour.
