i don't think you can look at US foreign policy and think that it selects for intellectuals
I like the general point, but there is a whiff of anti-intellectualism in the piece that's concerning. One feature of this class is that, actually, there are tremendously incurious and groupthinky. Combatting those tendencies is more important than technical skills.

Just nonstop, and more desperate each time
I have a hard time deciding which are worse. The retributive fake indictments against longtime Trump "enemies" or the ones where just a random person is picked out because of the need to retrofit reality to a latest Trump tweet/meltdown.
A judge said federal prosecutors cannot refile charges against a former Olympian who had been accused of damaging the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool only to have the case abruptly dropped weeks later.

For those not following, there’s a city in Russia occupied Ukraine near the frontline cut off from everywhere by mines and torn up roads, the people who haven’t been able to evacuate have only food they can grow themselves or have been rationing for a year, and Russia does not care.
Ukrainian forces have launched the largest drone-based humanitarian operations of its kind, delivering food across the Dnipro River to residents of Russian-occupied Oleshky, Kherson region. Around 4 tonnes of supplies have already reached 100 designated locations.

So, Banksy bought a used yacht, repaired it and retrofitted it to serve as a rescue boat to save migrants in the central Mediterranean. The whole project cost the artist $860,000. Since 2020, the boat has saved more than 3,800 people.
